‘Stichting dertien hectare’ (Thirteen hectares foundation) was formerly known as De KunstCamping (The Art Campsite) and for years produced open air exhibitions around the village of Heeswijk-Dinther. In 2006 Thirteen Hectares invited me to be guest curator of this exhibition, intending that I make a selection of artists and write an outline as a foundation for the project. One of the ambitions of the organisation was to achieve a more professional level, and from there attain national recognition.
In my view, the potential of the artist to project a story onto a landscape or a place and with it influence absolutely the experience of the viewer, is an important tool used by a number of significant contemporary artists. That notion, plus the existing ambitions of the organisation, led to the project, ‘The meadow that wanted to become famous’.
