In this assignment for Kunstenlab Deventer, Kunstcentrum Hengelo and Kunstvereniging Diepenheim, for the Parkscapes A1 project, I produced an artwork entitled ‘Hanging Around’. Various artists created artwork at diverse locations alongside the A1 motorway in response to the G.A.N.G. Foundation’s exploration of ‘the motorway as a lodging place’. The hub of my work is a prototype for a new sort of furniture in the public domain: the stainless-steel hammock. At five spots by the Shell petrol-station I created ‘motorway oases’ where the visitor would be tempted to experience a public space in a different way. Under a thatched ceiling, suspended over a patch of lavender, the motorway-guests could relinquish themselves to their daydreams.
